Job title: Welfare Officer (Voluntary)

Accountable to: Club Committee
Additional requirements: DBS Check through TMBSC
Responsible for: Welfare Issues
Skills required: Diplomacy, basic administration and organisation, excellent verbal and written communication. Friendly, approachable and supportive
Time commitment: Minimum 1 hour per week + attendance at meetings.
Main Duties:
- Providing a first point of contact for club officers, coaches, volunteers, children and young people, parents and adults within the club and mini mets who have a child safeguarding or welfare concern.
- Assisting the club in implementing Wavepower, Swim England’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures document.
- Ensuring that all safeguarding or welfare incidents are reported correctly and referred, in accordance with Wavepower.
- Investigating reported safeguarding and welfare incidents and ensuring confidentiality is maintained and information is only shared on a ‘need to know’ basis.
- Acting independently and in the best interests of a child in the club or mini mets, putting their needs above that of others and the club itself.
- Liaising with the Membership Secretary to ensure that all relevant club members, volunteers and coaches have up to date DBS Enhanced Disclosure (this should be updated every three years) and the opportunity to access appropriate child safeguarding training.
- Liaising with the Membership Secretary to ensure that Codes of Conduct are in place for coaches, volunteers, swimmers and parents.
- Attending relevant training courses as stipulated by Swim England and within their time frames e.g. ‘Time to Listen’.
- Ensuring that the Club achieves and maintains the standards required for Swim Mark accreditation.
- Following and promoting the Club’s Codes of Conduct.
- Following and promoting the SE Safeguarding Policy and Code of Ethics.
- Following and promoting the SE Photo Policy.
- Attending at least one Personal Development Review every year with either the Chairman or Club Secretary.
