Entry Criteria

Skills Development 1 (Pathway for Athletes
aged 10 & Under)

Neptune 5 Squad: Swim Club Award 1

Club link group for swimmers aged 8 and under as of 31 December. Age based on end of each year.

Children who show potential will be identified during evening swimming lessons (Stage 5/6 level).

Entry criteria:

  • Swim 25m of at least 2 and preferably 3 different strokes with good technique, to include rhythmical breathing
  • Able to dive and complete forwards roll in the water

Neptune 4 Squad: Swim Club Award 2

Entry level group for Mini Mets swimmers aged 10 and under as of 31 December. Age based on end of each year.

This group will be for children that have progressed from Neptune 5 and children identified as showing potential during evening swimming lessons (Stage 6/7 level).

Entry criteria:

  • Swim 50m of at least 2 and preferably 3 different strokes with good technique, to include correct stroke timing and streamline push off from the wall
  • Kick 25m of each stroke with/without a kickboard

Competition Development 1 (10 & Under)

Neptune 3 Squad: Swim Club Award 3 & 4

Group for Mini Mets swimmers that show potential to develop in thePerformance Pathway of the Club aged 10 and under as of 31 December. Aged
based on end of the year.

Swimmers join this group from the Skills Development 1 Programme (ideally
Neptune 4).

Entry criteria:

  • Competent in all four strokes (demonstrating correct streamline push
    off and underwater action)
  • Able to complete a short set (e.g. 8x25m) on a prescribed turnaround
    time (e.g. 60 seconds)
  • Should be able to dive from a starting block
  • Be able to perform a tumble turn on Front crawl and Backstroke
  • Kick with/without a kickboard for 4x50m repetitions on 1 min 30
    seconds per 50
  • Show basic lane discipline

Swimmers may then go on to join the Junior Club Squads of Trafford Metro Swimming Club at the Head Coaches discretion.

Some swimmers may benefit from further developing their techniques in Skill Development 2.

Skills Development 2 Pathway for Athletes
aged 10 & over

Neptune 2 Squad: Swim Club Award 2 & 3

Entry level group for Mini Mets swimmers aged 10-12 as of 31 December. Based on age at the end of the year.

Swimmers join this group from swimming classes or from the Skills Development 1 Programme. There are two different Neptune 2 groups.

Entry criteria:

  • Swim 50m of at least 2 and preferably 3 different strokes with good technique
  • Should be able to dive
  • Be able to perform a forward somersault
  • Kick 25m with/without a kickboard

Neptune 2a Squad: Swim Club Award 3 & 4

Development level group for Mini Mets swimmers aged 10-13 as of 31 December. Based on age at the end of the year.

Swimmers join this group from either Skills Development 1 or 2.

Entry criteria:

  • Swim 50m of at least 2 and preferably 3 different strokes with good
    technique, to include correct stroke timing and streamline push off from
    the wall
  • Should be able to dive
  • Be able to perform a forward somersault
  • Kick 25m of each stroke with/without a kickboard

Competition Development 2 (10 & Over)

Neptune 1 Squad: Swim Club Award 4

Final group for swimmers aged 10-12 as of 31 December. Based on age at the end of the year.

Swimmers join this group from either the Competition Development 1 (Neptune 3) or Skills Development 2 (Neptune 2) Programmes.

Entry criteria:

  • Competent in all four strokes
  • Able to complete a short set (e.g. 4x50m) on a prescribed turnaround
    time (e.g. 70 seconds)
  • Be able to hold good technique in a 100m Individual Medley, to include
    the correct streamline and underwater actions
  • Should be able to dive from a starting block
  • Be able to perform a tumble turn on Front crawl and Backstroke & touch turn on Breaststroke and Butterfly
  • Kick with/without a kickboard for 4x50m repetitions on 1 min 20
    seconds per 50
  • Punctual to most sessions
  • Show basic lane discipline

Swimmers may then go on to join the Club Fitness Group or the Club Squads
of Trafford Metro Swimming Club at the Head Coaches discretion.
