It is with sadness that Moira is retiring from Mini Mets. But it is also a celebration of how Moira has coached and inspired 1000s of swimmers over the years.
Moira swam nationally as a teenager. Her best stroke was backstroke. Moira had a break until her children Paul and Sara starting competing in 1990. She joined the Masters and began to compete again coming third in the country in her age group in 50m Backstroke. Moira’s greatest swimming achievement was 13th in the 100 metres backstroke at the World Masters in 1996.
Moira became a volunteer at TMBSC under Brian Swindelhurst and gained her teaching qualifications to become a coach for the Blue squad and Swim Link (Mini Mets). Moira loved teaching adults and children and inspired so many young swimmers to join the swimming club after they had completed their Gold award. Moira also trained many teachers up over the years and continued to compete not only in the pool but at Triathlons too.
After buying a caravan in Silverdale in 2015 Moira and her husband decided to move there in 2017 selling their house in Sale which they had for over 30 years. Moira continued to commute from her new bungalow to coach Mini Mets on a Saturday but has now decided after over 25 years of teaching it is time to retire.
She has been instrumental in the success of so many children and adults. She has worked tirelessly to give so many the opportunity to enjoy the swimming world. She genuinely adores the sport and the pleasure it gives to so many. Nothing has ever been too much trouble. She has always been keen to give all levels of swimmers the best opportunities. A fabulous mentor and a great friend. She really has been the best ambassador for many years.
Moira has been and inspiration to thousands of swimmers over the years and will be sadly missed but we wish her all the best in her retirement and we are sure she will continue to inspire her grandchildren to love the water like she does.
