We celebrated a 100 years of competitive swimming in Trafford borough with a spectacular swimming gala held at Sale Leisure Centre on Saturday. We were delighted that so many swimmers from the other 3 borough clubs of Altrincham, Flixton and Stretford accepted the invitation to compete in what proved to be a hugely successful event with a great turn out of 186 swimmers from around the borough.
The worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Trafford and her Consort were in attendance for the first session of swimming and The Presidents of Cheshire ASA and Manchester & District ASA Mrs Claire Dickinson and Mrs Laurel Flint were also present to award specially minted centenary medals to the swimmers. Every swimmer was presented with an individually personalised centenary certificate to commemorate the occasion.
There were some fantastic swims on the day with scores of personal best times. The club would like to extend its thanks to all the other clubs for providing technical officials, raffle prizes and support to make the event truly memorable. Thanks are also extended to Trafford Community Leisure Trust for generously donating the pool. Conversations have already started to turn this event into an annual fixture as a borough swimming gala licensed to level 3 for qualification to county and regional competitions.
